Up until recently it usually wasn’t possible to record RTMP or HTTP Streaming Flash Video or MP3 Audio used by sites like ABC.com, MySpace, Sony/BMG, YouTube and thousands of others. Thanks to the Replay Media Catcher streaming Flash recorder, it now is possible–and pretty darned easy. (Note: As of January 28, 2009, any new installation of Replay Media Catcher does not support Adobe Secure RTMP Measures.)
How to Capture RTMP and HTTP Streaming Flash Videos and MP3s
Go grab a copy of Replay Media Catcher from Applian Technologies.
Open Replay Media Catcher. When you open the program, you’ll see a tutorial page that points you in the right direction:
Click on the box that says “Download Music and Video as it plays in your browser.” Then hit the “Do It!” button. When the program window opens, you will see a toggle set to “On.” The green “On” button tells you that Replay Media Catcher will start recording as soon as you start playing videos or music clips.
Now find a site with streaming flash videos or music you want to record. Replay Media Catcher will record all the streaming Flash video and streaming MP3 on the site.
Start playing a video, and Replay Media Catcher will most likely finish capturing the file before the video is over:
Additionally, Replay Media Catcher can record multiple streams simultaneously. So just load the stream you want to capture, start playing it and once Replay Media Catcher starts recording you can move on to another stream and start playing that too.
To play the video, simply right click on the down arrow on the right side of the video’s icon and and choose “Play” from the pulldown menu.
The video will open in Applian Technologies’ FLV and Media Player:
